My current role

I work as a consultant in both the microbiology and the infectious diseases departments.

I am interested in global health and work within a partnership project with colleagues in Uganda working on the areas of antibiotic stewardship and infection control. In addition, I am involved with the global health fellowship scheme within Health Education East of England.

I have an interest in education and teach on the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and the Diploma in Tropical Nursing courses. I am on the exam board for the MSc in Tropical Medicine and International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and am an examiner for the FRCPath microbiology exams.

Previous history

I qualified in London in 2002. I worked as a junior doctor in London and then spent a year working as a medical officer in Zambia and Uganda.

I did my specialist training in infectious diseases and microbiology in London. I was based in Vietnam between 2011 and 2015 on a Wellcome fellowship studying for a PhD on dengue. I worked in Sierra Leone in 2015 during the Ebola crisis.

I am a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
