My current role

My areas of expertise include the management of hepato-biliary and pancreatic cancers in adults and radiotherapy for children with cancer and haematological malignancies.

My research interests are optimisation of the combination of radiotherapy with novel agents and application of precision radiotherapy techniques to improve clinical outcomes in cancer.

I chair the European Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOPE) brain tumour radiotherapy group. I am also the cancer lead for the Eastern Clinical Research Network (CRN) and radiotherapy lead for the NCRI CCLG CNS GCT subgroup, and the principal investigator for the international Paediatric Normal Tissue Effects in the Clinic (PENTEC) Re-irradiation working group.

I have been the lead/co-editor of five oncology textbooks:

  • Specialist training in Oncology (Elsevier)
  • Oxford Desk Reference in Oncology (two editions)
  • Oxford Case histories in Oncology
  • Imaging in Clinical Oncology.

Previous history

I qualified from Trivandrum Medical College, India, and completed MD from the Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum, India.

After this I completed a research fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, followed by speciality training in clinical oncology in the Eastern Deanery. I became a consultant clinical oncologist at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre in 2006, before moving back to East Anglia in 2009 as a consultant in clinical oncology at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals.

I joined CUH in 2014.

Personal interests

I enjoy organising teaching courses in oncology and teaching. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and reading.

Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologist, UK and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, member of the European Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOPE) Germ Cell Tumour (GCT) and Low Grade Glioma (LGG) groups, Quality and Excellence in Radiotherapy and Imaging for Children and Adolescents with Cancer across Europe in clinical trials (QUARTET) and NCRI CCLG brain tumour group and GCT sub-group.
