I am a consultant specialising in the treatment of disorders of hearing and balance, including hearing implants for adults and children.
Mr Matthew Smith
Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon
My current role
My clinical work is based around neuro-otology and hearing implants. I have otology and vestibular clinics and I am part of the Cambridge hearing implant multidisciplinary team in the Emmeline Centre.
I have a specialist interest in Eustachian tube dysfunction, for which I run a research clinic.
I am a clinician-scientist and senior research associate at the University of Cambridge. I conduct mostly clinical research and trials, and have an interest in medical device development.
I originally qualified in Cambridge, with my specialist surgical training also in the East of England. I followed this with sub-specialist training in advanced otology, hearing implants and skull base surgery in Manchester.
Membership and accreditations
I sit on the council for the British Society of Otology.
