My current role
In addition to seeing patients with suspected heart diseases at CUH, Marc was also appointed as the Professor of Radiology at the University of Cambridge and the first Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS) Professor in Cambridge in 2026.
Marc and his team are very interested in interdisciplinary clinical and AI research collaborations. (opens in a new tab)
Previous history
In 2012, Marc was appointed the Heisenberg Professor of Radiology at the German Research Foundation (DFG) at Charité in Berlin, Germany.
Since 2014, Marc is the chief trial prinicipal investigator of the European Commission-funded DISCHARGE trial (opens in a new tab) and since 2026 is the chief trial PI of the INCHARGE trial funded by the DFG, British Heart Foundation, and German Heart Foundation.
Since 2017, Marc coordinates the interdisciplinary Quantitative Cardiothoracic Imaging (QCI) Study group and since 2023 leads the global medical imaging data sharing platform GUIDE-IT.
Membership/ accreditations
Marc is a member of the Royal College of Radiology (RCR), the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and the German Radiological Society (DRG).
Marc served for six years on the Executive Council of the ESR as its Research and Publications Chair from 2019 until 2025. He also served on the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) Programme Planning Committee from 2013 until 2025. Marc was section editor cardiac of European Radiology from 2018 until 2021. He is the guest editor of the ESR Essentials for European Radiology since 2024.
Marc is also a member of subspecialty societies such as the European Society of Cardiovascular Radiology (ESCR), the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI), the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR), and the European Society of Medical Imaging Informatics(EUSoMII).
Marc received the two highest scientific awards of the DRG: the Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen Award in 2009 and the Marie-Curie-Ring in 2012.
Marc received an Honorary Doctorate from Semmelweis University in 2022. Marc was named an honorary member of the Japanese Radiological Society in 2025.
