Dr Claire McCarthy

My current role

I specialise in multiple sclerosis (MS) and other inflammatory neurological disorders. I am the lead clinician for the regional MS disease modifying therapy service.  I also provide general neurology clinics where I manage patients with a wide range of neurological conditions.

I contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. I am an affiliated assistant professor with the University of Cambridge.

Previous history

I trained in neurology in the East of England (Cambridge, Norwich and London).

During this time, I completed my PhD in the neuro-immunology of multiple sclerosis (2006-2010) with Professor Alasdair Coles at the University of Cambridge. I was an investigator on the phase II and phase III trials of alemtuzumab in relapsing-remitting MS. I also studied the response to vaccination of MS patients treated with alemtuzumab through a phase IV clinical trial.
