Dr Joseph Christopher

Honorary Specialty Registrar and NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Medical Genetics and Genomics

I am an Honorary Specialty Registrar and NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Medical Genetics and Genomics.
Dr Joseph Christopher

My current role

As a clinician scientist, I split my time between the care of patients at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and University research at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

As part of my clinical role, I care for patients with a wide variety of genetic conditions including clinics in paediatrics and cancer, and subspecialty clinics such as eye, cardiac, and prenatal genetics.

My research and specialty interest is in hereditary cancer risk and its management. My research is carried out in the groups of Dr Raheleh Rahbari and Dr Peter Campbell at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. We are utilising cutting edge genomic technologies to investigate the role of germline cancer predisposition in the somatic mutational landscape of healthy tissues to better understand early cancer so we can improve care for patients at high familial risk of cancer.

I am the Cambridge study co-ordinator for the Metformin in Li Fraumeni (MILI) trial and Li Fraumeni over Time Study (LiFTS).
