Dr Sue Broster is Chief Medical Officer at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH), Responsible Officer for the Trust, and a Consultant Neonatologist. She provides executive leadership for clinical quality, patient safety, medical governance, research and education across one of the largest and most digitally advanced NHS trusts in the country. Together with the Chief Nurse, Sue holds Board-level accountability for Maternity and Neonatal Services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care for women, babies and families.
Prior to becoming Chief Medical Officer, Sue served as Executive Director for Innovation, Digital and Improvement at CUH, leading a wide range of transformational programmes to improve patient care and clinical outcomes. Her work has included the development of the Trust's digital health strategy, implementation of large-scale quality improvement programmes, expansion of virtual care initiatives, and the establishment of innovative regional healthcare partnerships.
Sue has extensive experience leading complex change across healthcare systems and has worked closely with academic, industry and NHS partners to develop innovative approaches to healthcare delivery. She played a key role in establishing the East of England Specialist Services Provider Collaborative and in the development of the East of England Paediatric and Neonatal Decision Support and Retrieval Service (PaNDR).
As Chief Medical Officer and Responsible Officer, Sue is committed to fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement and compassionate care, ensuring that patients and families receive the highest standards of care while supporting innovation, education and research to improve health outcomes for future generations. This aligns with her executive responsibilities for medical governance, clinical outcomes, research and development, education, clinical networks, and professional standards for the medical workforce.
