Reverend Debbie Ford

My current role

After working for many years here as a permanent chaplain, I am currently working as a locum chaplain.

My main responsibilities include:

  • supporting and caring for patients, staff and family members
  • carrying out Independent Assessments for Living Donation for the Human Tissue Authority
  • facilitating reflective practice groups; facilitating staff/team debriefs
  • facilitation of Bereavement Care Follow up Service meetings
  • occasional on-call and leading services.

I draw on the wisdom from the different disciplines, traditions and life experience which have shaped me to help others find meaning, purpose and hope in whatever is going on for them.

I have been involved in the development, training and practice of pastoral supervision for many years and enjoy working with individuals and groups in a range of contexts and countries. I draw on the different disciplines and wisdom traditions that have shaped me to offer space for others to navigate themselves and others in their different work/ministry roles and contexts – and find life.

I am a co-founder and trustee of a local charity (Lyn’s House, Cambridge) -a community encouraging friendship between those with and without learning disabilities.

I recently retired from practising for 20 years as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist (specialising in trauma and dissociation).

Previous history

Before becoming ordained, I studied English, Social Sciences and Theology. I spent some years working in Social Services and then spent time being a full time Mum, before training in psychotherapy, spiritual direction and ministerial formation.
