You Made a Difference team award - March

19 April 2018
A team who care for patients at the end of their lives has been honoured with a You Made a Difference team award.

Emma Bruce and Vicky Carr were nominated for providing excellent palliative care, and for their close working with staff from the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Emma and Vicky went above and beyond for a young patient in intensive care, transferring them to a new nurse-led hospice bed. Transfers from hospital to a hospice are usually scheduled on weekdays. The patient was very unwell, and with just two days before Christmas, Emma and Vicky made outstanding efforts to complete the transfer quickly, so the patient’s and their family’s needs would be met.

Emma has worked as a specialist palliative care nurse for 14 years, having previously worked in haematology and hospice care. Emma sees patients who have a life-limiting illness. She also works closely with family members and carers to provide support.

Vicky began her role in October 2016, working alongside a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate and enhance patient experience, and ensure they have choices about their care.
