Since 2009, You Make a Difference has celebrated the contribution to excellent patient care by CUH members of staff.
More than a thousand nominations are received every year from the public, colleagues and the community, and we are proud to share the stories of this month’s winners:
- J Lalmalsawmi – Staff Nurse
- Jo Moir – Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist, Cardiac Rehabilitation
Winner – J Lalmalsawmi
J has been nominated for a You Make a Difference award for her quick action when a patient was found to be bleeding on their way to a CT scan.
J was passing when the patient was being transferred from a ward to the scanner and a relative noticed some blood on the sheets. When the sheet was lifted, there was more blood found. J immediately came to the aid of the patient, running to the closest ward for supplies and treating the bleed quickly.
She stayed with the patient as they were taken for the scan and kept in communication with the CT nurse, ensuring a safe transfer. The nomination for the award said, “she offered reassurance to both the patient and their relative.”
Idoya Ederra Anso, senior sister on the ward J works on, said, “J is a true team player and works well with everyone in our wider MDT, including students and newly qualified nurses.
“When we heard J had been nominated for this award, we were not surprised at all – it is such a ‘J’ thing to do! She is a real asset to our little team, and we are incredibly proud that she has received this well-deserved award.”
Winner – Jo Moir
Jo Moir has worked at CUH since 1999 and became lead nurse for cardiology in April last year. She has been nominated for a You Make a Difference award by a colleague, who said Jo “consistently demonstrates what is means to be an inspiring, forward-thinking and exceptionally resilient leader within Addenbrooke’s Hospital.”
Jo’s passion for patient care is matched by her relentless desire to improve services. Crucially, Jo is a leader who leads from the front and champions her team at every turn. She is deeply invested in the growth and recognition of her team members, ensuring their hard work is visible and valued across the trust.
“What makes Jo truly remarkable, however, is her unwavering strength under pressure. Over recent months, our service has faced organisational change and complex administrative headwinds. Throughout these challenging periods, Jo has acted as an invaluable shield for her team, absorbing systemic pressures so that her staff can focus entirely on patient care. An example of this is the cementing of relationships and pathways between nursing teams at CUH and at Papworth.”
The nomination concluded, “Jo is a pillar of strength, a passionate advocate for service improvement, and a true champion for her staff. She genuinely makes a difference to the culture of our team and the quality of our service, and she is highly deserving of this formal recognition.”
Chris Gray, deputy divisional head of nursing, added he couldn’t agree more with this nomination and that is “has been a pleasure to see Jo grow within this role.”
