05 December 2012
Ward C5 has 33 beds and is the largest ward within Medicine division. It's speciality is renal, but the staff also care for a variety of patients with diverse medical conditions.

Ward C5 teamC5 team strive daily to provide the highest standard of holistic care to each and every patient they encounter. Staff work very well together supporting each other when they are faced with the pressures of high acuity and staffing levels. The care and concerns of the patients and/or their relatives are team's daily focus.  An extract from the winning nomination this month told:

"I feel I must express my admiration of the excellent nursing and care skills I have experienced. A patient with severe Dementia was refusing to eat. A nurse sat by her side gently trying to coax her with small mouthfuls with extreme tenderness. Following this, the patient got out of bed and was on all fours crawling around the floor refusing to get up. The patience and gentleness of the ward staff was amazing. Getting down on the floor with her to speak to her face to face. Never jerking or pulling her. A wonderful example of nursing."
