Dr Deepa Krishnakumar
Staff Governor

Deepa was elected as a staff governor in 2018. She has lived in Cambridge and worked at Addenbrooke's Hospital for nearly 10 years, as a junior doctor initially and currently as a consultant. Some of the core beliefs Deepa cares for and hopes to continue to evoke in others at the Trust are transparency in NHS governance structures, and creating opportunities for the voices of staff and patients from various cultural backgrounds to be heard.

Deepa trained in general paediatrics in East Anglia, London and in Wales. Subsequently she trained to be a specialist paediatric neurologist in Addenbrooke’s Hospital and at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. As a paediatric neurologist and clinical lead for the neuromuscular team at CUH, her work involves working with children with various neurological conditions and disabilities. She has led on improving the patient referral pathway and diagnostic investigations for children with Idiopathic intracranial hypertension within East of England.

Deepa’s interest to connect and contribute to the community led her to raise funds for various organisations and charities over the last six years. This has including funds for Sunflowers paediatric rehabilitation team, participation in Addenbrookes Charitable Trust sponsored 10K run, Cambridge Half marathon supporting Cancer research UK and 40K Peak District Walk for Acquired Brain Injury. She is also passionate to increase opportunities for students from local schools for work experience and volunteering within the Trust.

In her free time Deepa enjoys racquet sports, running and watching cricket. She tries to find time to sketch, paint and cook with her family.
