Julia Loudon
Patient Governor and Lead Governor

Julia Loudon was elected as a Patient Governor in 2015. Having received excellent care when a patient at Addenbrooke’s some years ago, she was looking for ways she could support the Trust. After joining the Trust initially as a Member, Julia attended Medicine for Members lectures as well as several of the open sessions of the Board and Council of Governors meetings. These experiences convinced her that she could add value by representing patients as a Governor.

Julia holds B.Sc. and Ph.D qualifications in pharmacology.  While she has not previously worked in the NHS, she has had a long and challenging career in medicine-related fields and corporate business environments.  She has experience in, and has held leadership roles across, a wide range of pharmaceutical development disciplines including research, preclinical and clinical development, project management and regulatory affairs. She now has time to focus on different opportunities and interests and is looking forward to applying the skills, qualities and experience she had developed over many years to support the work of the Trust.

Being passionate about good health, Julia is committed to ensuring patient care is top of the Trust’s agenda and is keen to actively contribute towards initiatives that will help deliver and maintain this. In particular, she is interested in i) optimising efficiency and performance, enabling all resources to be effectively deployed to bring the maximum amount of benefit to both patients and staff, and ii) interacting with patients to hear about their experiences and understand their needs and concerns.

In her spare time Julia loves to participate or spectate across a range of sports. She also enjoys reading and has recently taken up her interest in creative writing.
