Patient information A-Z

General advice for after your procedure

If you have had local anaesthetic throat spray, you cannot have hot food and drink for four hours after your procedure.

Before you go home, please make sure that you are clear which tablets you should continue and which you should stop. Your nurse will tell you this.

General precautions:

For the first 24 hours after your procedure

  • do not drive
  • do not swim
  • do not drink alcohol
  • do not bath or shower without assistance
  • do not return to work
  • do not operate any potentially dangerous devices (i.e. kettles, cookers and irons) as your reflexes may be reduced
  • do not make any life changing decisions, write cheques or sign any legally binding documents in case these are contested
  • do have a responsible adult with you at all times

If you have any concerns, please contact ward K2
