Patient stories

Patient information A-Z

Some patients with a learning disability, and some with neurodiversity, might find a picture or “social story” useful to help understand what a test or procedure involves. There are various apps that can be used to make these stories, but we have made two below, that you are welcome to use to help explain what would happen during an EEG.

Illustration of an example of a picture story for an EEG which includes sitting on a chair, person drawing on the head, rubbing in cream on the head, small buttons on the head with cream, then sitting for 20 minutes and resting.
These examples have been made using the “Widget Go” app.
Illustration of an example of a picture story of a activation procedure which includes closing eyes, opening eyes, blowing on a windmill, 3 minutes, resting, look at light flashing, buttons off head, finish and home
