I was appointed Head of Department of Radiology at the University of Cambridge in November 2011. Prior to this I held the Chair of Radiology at Aberdeen University and was head Aberdeen Biomedical Imaging Centre. I was Chair of the Royal College of Radiologists Breast Group (2009-2011), member of NCRI Biomarkers and Imaging Group, co-lead of the NCRI PET Research Development group and was a member of the ACORRN international scientific advisory committee. I sat on guideline development groups for breast imaging for SIGN and NICE and am a current member of the family history of breast cancer guideline development group. I was a member of the Commissioning Board for the Health Technology Assessment Panel (2003-2006) and Royal College of Radiologists Research Committee (1998-2002) and am the current Chair of the newly reformed RCR Academic committee. I am a member of the executive of the European Society of Breast Imaging and member of the breast scientific organising committee for the European Society of Radiology. I am a fully trained radiologist with a special interest in all aspects of breast imaging.

Research:

My current research interests are in evaluating Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT), non FDG PET radiotracers in cancer, and breast MRI. I am interested in using imaging to gain a better understanding of tumour physiology. Current trials are the TOMMY trial, a comparison of 2D mammography and DBT, a sub study of the POETIC trial evaluating PET FLT to measure cell proliferation and sophisticated functional MRI in breast cancer with comparison with novel histology and molecular markers and the assessment of pre-operative breast MRI in an international study.
