Diane Lane
Maternity Support Worker

I am a band 3 maternity support worker. I have worked on the delivery unit since 2009 and then transferred to the Rosie birth centre when it opened in September 2012.

My role is to assist midwives caring for women before, during and after their birth. I am trained to give information, guidance, reassurance and support to women and their families.

My responsibilities include mother and baby observations, venepuncture (blood taking), blood sugar monitoring, breastfeeding support, replenishing stock and generally assisting in the smooth running of a busy unit.

It’s such a special time for somebody welcoming a new member to their family. When my shift has finished I go home thinking how wonderful it is to be involved in such a happy event.
