Jackie Farrer – staff bank manager

This year Jackie is celebrating 30 years at CUH

I really feel that CUH is part of my extended family and is where I can really make a difference.

Prior to registering with the A&C Bank in July 1989, as it was back then, I had no NHS experience, having previously worked both in publishing and the agrichemical industry as a secretary and personal assistant.

I had just started a family and didn’t want to be out of the workplace for too long but thought I would continue in a part time role rather than this being the start of a new career, and staff bank work offered the flexibility I was looking for. I covered assignments in the drug and alcohol service, eating disorders, and psychiatric services, all of which I found extremely interesting, before an opportunity arose in the staff bank office itself. It was here I found my niche, and where ultimately I became staff bank manager.

I am very fortunate to still work with my colleague Julie and we have worked together for over 30 years, which I would imagine is quite a rare occurrence. I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement Julie has provided over the years and am proud of our achievements together and how hard we have worked to grow and develop the service in line with the ever changing requirements within the Trust.

I think having experience of undertaking bank placements in the early days really helped, and I have thoroughly enjoyed watched individuals who we registered on bank, and who were starting in their first job or perhaps, like me, returning to work after a break, go on to have flourishing careers within CUH.

No two days are ever the same and, although at times it can be tough, I have never wanted to be anywhere else.
