We are providing an update on when the findings of the external clinical review into the practice of Ms Kuldeep Stohr are expected to be published.
Andrew Kennedy KC, Chair of the review, has advised that he expects to provide his report to the Trust at the end of 2026. We therefore expect to share the final report with affected patients and families in early 2027, before it is published.
We are sorry this is later than originally expected. We know patients and families have already waited a long time for this report, and we recognise the impact of this further delay. The report is being written independently of the Trust and so the timeline we have been given is unfortunately beyond our control.
We have written to affected patients and families to update them and apologise.
Progress of the external clinical review
The external clinical review is ongoing and before the report is written, the final clinical reviews need to be completed and the outcomes discussed with patients and families.
It is important that this process is given the same time and attention as it was at the beginning of the clinical review, and that patients and families all have the same opportunity to understand their findings, ask questions and seek further information where needed.
What happens next
Once the remaining review and discussions are complete, Andrew Kennedy KC will prepare his report. After CUH receives it, several important steps must be completed before it can be shared with patients and families and then published. These include:
- Sharing the report with NHS England (NHSE) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC)
- Checking the report for factual accuracy
- Ensuring that patients and families cannot be identified from the information it contains
- Preparing a plain-language summary through independent experts, as asked for by patients and families
Once we have received the draft report, we will provide specific dates for when affected patients and families will receive an advance copy and when the report will be published.
The updated timetable has been discussed with NHSE, the CQC and the Chair of the Patient Advisory Board (PAB).
We remain committed to giving affected patients and families time to read the report before its wider publication. We will continue working closely with the PAB on the timing and approach, including consideration of school holidays, so information is shared as sensitively as possible.
We will provide a further update in November on delivery of the action plan published in response to the Verita report. This will also include the latest information about the timetable for Andrew Kennedy KC’s report and its publication.
Support for patients and families
We understand that this continues to be an extremely difficult and unsettling time. Our dedicated Patient and Family Liaison Team remains available to provide information, guidance and support throughout the review process.
You can contact the team Monday to Friday, between 9am and 4pm:
- Phone: 07719 407 210
- Email: cuh.familyliaison@nhs.net
The Patient Advisory Board is made up of parents and families of children and young people affected by the review. It meets monthly to listen to their experiences, advocate for patients and families, and help ensure their feedback leads to meaningful change.
