Number of patients in scope of the clinical review increased

The external clinical review team, led by Andrew Kennedy KC, has increased the number of patients in scope of the retrospective clinical review, with the extension applying to a subset of patients who received emergency orthopaedic procedures.

The review team wants to look at their cases to ensure that their treatment met the standards we expect and that our patients rightly expect from us. This increases the total number of patients in the scope of the review.

This increase was recommended by the external clinical review team and agreed upon by CUH’s Oversight Board – made up of local and national healthcare bodies including NHS England, Care Quality Commission and Healthwatch.

We are in the process of contacting all of the additional patients and their families by telephone to advise them that their case is now in scope of the clinical review, and to explain the next steps.

As with all patients and families in scope of the review, we will continue to keep them informed as the review progresses and contact them as soon as the review of their care is complete.

If you have any questions or concerns about what the clinical review is assessing, what this news means for you, or would like more information, please do get in touch with us through our dedicated Patient and Family Liaison Team on 07719 407 210. You can call or text them Monday to Friday, between 9am and 4pm. Alternatively, you can email them at cuh.familyliaison@nhs.net.
