For researchers

The Trust is responsible for overseeing all the biomedical research which takes place on our campus in so far as it involves our patients, their data or tissues, or where it uses NHS facilities and staff at CUH.

Our Mission

"To facilitate excellence in medical research by providing helpful and competent support on all matters of research governance, administration and management."

Welcome to the Research and Development pages of the Cambridge University Hospitals website.

Most research is led by our academic partners on the site, particularly those at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, the Medical Research Council and Cancer Research UK. But research involves many skilled people - specialist nurses, pharmacists, technicians and administrators for example - and it could not be conducted without them.

Cambridge University Hospitals are host to over a thousand research projects at any one time and the Research and Development department makes sure this activity works smoothly and efficiently without affecting the quality of care for our patients. We provide the corporate R&D Management function in the Trust, representing the Trust on external NHS bodies locally and regionally and maintaining up-to-date policies and procedures governing research activity.

Much of the research in which patients are involved is undertaken under the umbrella of the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre, one of 20 comprehensive centres in England.
