Neurology
Neurology is the diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, and disorders of the nerves and muscles that activate movement and transmit sensations to the brain.
We offer a variety of clinics, including:
- Epilepsy consultations
- Multiple sclerosis clinics
- Neuromuscular disease
- First Seizure/epilepsy clinics
Neuro-Rehab
Neurological rehabilitation is a tailored medical process designed to restore function, reduce symptoms, and improve the well-being of individuals with nervous system diseases or injuries (e.g., stroke, brain injuries, Multiple Sclerosis). It relies on a multidisciplinary team to address physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges
Rehabilitation medicine services at CUH offer a comprehensive hyper acute trauma rehabilitation service, outpatient clinics, community head injury service, spasticity management including botulinum toxin injections, phenol nerve blocks, baclofen pumps and comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic services.
Neurosurgery
Neurosurgeons operate on a wide variety of conditions, ranging from minimally invasive treatments for back pain to complex brain procedures. Common conditions include:
- Brain & Spinal Tumours: Including skull-based and neuro-oncological growths.
- Vascular Disorders: Cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and strokes.
- Spinal Conditions: Degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, and spinal cord compression.
- Trauma: Emergency surgeries for severe head and spinal injuries.
- Functional Conditions: Epilepsy, movement disorders (e.g., Parkinson's), and hydrocephalus.
These services can be accessed via referral from your GP or following admittance to the Emergency Department. All referrals are then triaged by one of our medical team.
