Giving birth at the Rosie birth centre

Midwife-led birth units are considered the most appropriate location for low risk women to labour and birth.

Rosie birth centre offers women who are enjoying a healthy pregnancy and expecting an uncomplicated birth the opportunity to let the natural process of childbirth take its course.

The birth centre is open 24 hours a day and is staffed by a team of experienced midwives and maternity support workers.

We offer continuous midwifery care when you are in active labour. We will work with you and your birth partner to create the best conditions for your labour and birth to progress naturally.

We also welcome doulas.

What if complications arise?

If the midwife caring for you has any concerns about you or your baby you will be fully informed. If necessary you will be transferred to the delivery unit and the care of an obstetrician and midwifery team.

After your birth

The majority of the midwives have completed the ‘examination of the newborn’ course and are qualified to perform your baby’s first check. This enables you to transfer home to the care of your community midwife as soon as possible. If everything has gone smoothly and your baby has had a good feed, it is expected that you will go home a few hours after the birth. It may, however, be necessary to remain in the Rosie for a 12-24 hour period if your baby requires observation post-delivery.
