Additional information

  • Please ensure you remove all nail varnish and make-up.
  • Please do not wear any perfumed products.
  • Please remove all jewellery.
  • If a fresh semen sample is to be used for treatment this will be produced on the morning of egg collection. Please remember the two to five days abstinence period required to produce the best quality sample on the day. Occasionally, a second sample is needed, in which case the male partner is advised to remain nearby until the sample has been analysed.
  • Normally you will be ready to leave the clinic approximately 2 hours after your procedure time, depending how well you feel.
  • You will need an adult you know to collect you from the clinic – you cannot be discharged alone due to the sedation effects.
  • You will be advised prior to your discharge when to commence using Utrogestan/ Cyclogest pessaries in preparation for an embryo transfer.
  • You are advised not to drive or undertake any complex mental or physical tasks for 24 hours following your egg collection due to the side effects of the anaesthetic and pain relieving drugs administered during the procedure.

For IVF/ICSI cycles - The day after egg collection

A member of the Embryology team will contact you the morning after your egg collection to advise you of the results of fertilisation of your eggs. They will then contact you on a regular basis to update you on the development of your embryos and the most likely day for embryo transfer, if applicable.

If, unfortunately, fertilisation has not taken place then an appointment will be arranged with a senior doctor to discuss the cycle and to plan any future attempts.

We all wish you the best of luck in your forthcoming procedure.
