All the information you need during your baby’s stay in the NICU, including facilities for families, answers to common questions and how to access financial support if you need it.
Accommodation
We may be able to provide on-site accommodation to support families during their time at The Rosie Hospital, allocated on a case-by-case basis. If you feel you would benefit from this, please speak to your nurse for more information.
Facilities
We have a dedicated parents’ room equipped with a kitchen for use by parents and siblings. Please note, children should not be left unattended in this space.
Help yourself to the free fruit and snacks in the parents’ room. It’s important you look after yourselves too!
Just outside the parents’ room, you’ll find a linen cupboard. Here, you can select bedding and clothes for your baby when they are ready to use them.
Water coolers and squash are available in reception and near the nurses’ station, and you are welcome to bring these into the rooms with you. However, if you bring a hot drink into the room, it must be in a container with a secure lid.
Financial Support
We understand that having a baby on the NICU is not something you had planned, and we know that the additional expenses can place a financial strain on families.
To help ease this, we may be able to provide financial assistance. However, this support is not available to all families, so please speak with the nurse caring for your baby to check if you are eligible for this assistance. We are here to help where we can.
Family Support Fund
Family Fund provide a range of grants to support families raising a disabled or seriously ill child. Check their website (opens in a new tab) to see if you're eligible.
Neonatal Family and Baby Support Service (FAB)
The neonatal family support service is a team of trained counsellors and clinical psychologists who are dedicated to supporting you during your baby’s stay. The team works closely with the Chaplaincy Team. They can offer you a confidential space to talk about how your experience is impacting on you as a family and as individual. They offer informal support by your baby’s cot side or confidential appointments close to the unit.
If you would like to speak to a member of the Neonatal Family and Baby Support Service, please speak to the nurse caring for your baby or you can self-refer by emailing cuh.nicufamilysupport@nhs.net
You can also telephone our administrator on 01223 216878 (Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:00) who will arrange for one of our team to make contact with you directly.
