Dr Charles Wilson
Director of Breast Services, Consultant Clinical Oncologist

 

 

Dr Charles Wilson trained in London at the Hammersmith and the Royal Marsden Hospitals before joining Addenbrookes as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist in 1993 with special interest in Breast and GI Malignancies. He is the present Director of the Cambridge Breast Unit (2010-), and Co Chair of the Anglia Network Breast Site Specific Group.

As Clinical Director of Oncology in 2000-2004, he oversaw the development of the first NHS Tomotherapy unit. He was also  closely involved with the Wallace Centre in Cambridge which opened in 2004. (In June 2010 Wallace Cancer Care received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for the excellence of the voluntary work done with cancer patients and their families.)

He was a member of National Chemotherapy Advisory Group that produced NCAG report in 2009 advising  the Department of Health of the developments needed for high quality chemotherapy services.

He is currently Chair of the Chemotherapy Clinical Information Group that oversees the Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) dataset. This  will provide essential guidance to the DOH, commissioners and providers for the delivery of chemotherapy in the UK. 

His research interest have included the development and implementation of new radiotherapy techniques and he has been the local principal investigator for several NCRN trials in breast and colorectal systemic therapy.
