The Earring – A painting for Addenbrooke’s

This painting was created especially for Cambridge University Hospitals 250th anniversary in 2016. It was painted by the celebrated artist Anita Klein as a special commission from Addenbrooke’s Arts made possible by Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust.

The image is being used to mark the hospital’s anniversary and to celebrate the spirit of compassion and nurture which has been at the heart of Addenbrooke’s approach to health and care over the years.

Anita Klein is one of the country’s most recognisable painters and printmakers – her work celebrates domesticity and care, sensitivity and joy in life. She has a long association with hospitals as both a patron of the charity Paintings in Hospitals and with her work on many hospital walls. Two of her prints are much-loved features of Addenbrooke’s Arts’ collection.

This painting will feature in different displays and events through the year to mark the anniversary and Anita herself will come to Cambridge to unveil it when it is permanently installed in the hospital for the enjoyment of patients, visitors and staff for years to come.
