We take great care to ensure that your health information is kept private and secure.
The MyChart patient portal of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is directly integrated with our Trust’s Epic electronic patient record system, to provide patients of Addenbrooke’s and The Rosie hospitals with secure access to parts of their hospital health record to engage and involve them further in their care.
Our electronic patient record system is owned, hosted, and operated by CUH – built and tailored specifically for our hospital services and the clinical needs of our patients. The electronic records contained within it can only be accessed by the clinicians and clinical teams caring for each of our patients.
The data contained within our system, and subsequently available to our patients through MyChart, is securely hosted on servers within UK-based data centres run by CUH.
Privacy information
MyChart uses the latest encryption technology and is fully compliant with UK laws relating to privacy.
Security information
Access to your MyChart information is controlled through secure activation codes, personal usernames, and passwords. Each patient controls their password, and their account cannot be accessed without using that password. On mobile devices, MyChart accounts may also be accessed using face ID, passcode or fingerprint login. We are compliant with national NHS standards on authentication.
Two-step verification provides an extra layer of security by ensuring that MyChart accounts stay secure even if someone else has your username or password. It requires a code that is sent to you (by email or authenticator app) to log in to your MyChart, in addition to using your username and password.
If you are logged into your MyChart account and do nothing with it for 15 minutes, the system will automatically log you out to protect your information.
To keep your health information secure, please do not share your MyChart log in details, and be careful who you share your health information with.
Securely sharing your health information with clinicians outside of CUH
You can share your MyChart information securely with a clinician on a temporary basis who is caring for you outside of CUH – for example, your GP or a clinician at a different hospital if you are receiving treatment elsewhere.
You can give the clinician a temporary code to allow them 60-minute access to your MyChart information to support the continuity of your care.
To do this, log into your MyChart and click the ‘Share Everywhere’ option within the menu list. Enter the clinician’s details and they will be emailed a code to securely access your MyChart information for a limited time.
