I am also a Professor of Sport and Nutritional science at the University of Bedfordshire and Head of Integrative Oncology for The Royal London Hospital for Integrative Medicine at University College Hospital London (UCLH).
My current role
I treat patients with breast and urological cancers with radiotherapy, two days a week at Addenbrooke's plus chemotherapy and biological therapies at Bedford 2 days a week and Head Integrative oncology 1 day a week at UCLH.
I am also a clinical teacher at Cambridge University, a regular health journalist for National World News and the author of the book "How to Live".
On top of my mainstream oncology roles, I lead a Lifestyle and Cancer Research Unit which designs and conducts national studies that evaluate the impact of lifestyle, gut health on cancer, long covid, other chronic diseases and sports performance.
I was chief investigator of the national covid nutritional intervention study which evaluated the benefits of YourgutPlus and other gut health strategies. I recently completed the YourPhyto study which found that boosting phytochemical rich foods and gut health slowed prostate cancer progression, improved urinary symptoms, reduced markers of inflammation and increased grip strength. I am chief research investigator for a current longevity study.
Previous history
My oncology training was based at The Middlesex, Royal Marsden and Royal Free Hospitals. My masters degree was based at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square and Duke University North Carolina.
Membership and accreditations
Member of the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Radiologist from which he was awarded the National research medal. He was awarded a Fellowship in the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine and in the past "Oncologist of the Year" by The British Oncology Association.
Personal interests
I enjoy tennis, running, cycling, windsurfing and being with my family and friends.
