My current role
I am a recognised trainer for the British Society of Surgery of the Hand diploma and train a number of doctors on plastic surgery or hand surgery training pathways. I deliver a paediatric hand surgery clinic once per month and a weekly adult hand clinic. I also diagnose and treat patients with benign and malignant skin lesions referred to our services.
I was delighted to join the Addenbrooke's team in 2016 as a consultant hand and plastic surgeon. Having trained in many excellent centres in Ireland and in the UK I developed special interests in hand and wrist surgery.
I also see patients who have been referred by GPs or dermatology teams with worrying skin lesions, to help with diagnosis and, if needed, surgery.
I’m part of several great teams here – including trauma, hand surgery, skin cancer, children’s hand surgery, and spasticity surgery – and we work closely together to provide care that’s timely, modern, and focused on what’s best for each patient.
Previous history
I have been extremely privileged to train under a number of highly regarded experts in my field both in Ireland, the UK and during international fellowships prior to joining the team at Addenbrooke's.
Following successful completion of Plastic Surgery training in the UK I went on to complete hand and trauma fellowships at St Andrew's Centre for Hand and Plastic Surgery, Chelmsford and visiting fellowships to Institute de La Main, Paris, The Indiana Hand Centre and UCLA in the US.
During my specialist fellowship training, I gained the internationally recognised qualifications of European Diploma in Hand Surgery and the British Diploma in Hand surgery. Over the years I have further developed special interest and expertise in a variety of areas, including hand trauma, management of small joint arthritis in the hand, congenital (from birth) hand conditions, and surgery for upper limb spasticity.
I was awarded the BSSH Diploma in Hand Surgery in 2014 and the European Diploma in Hand Surgery shortly afterwards. My training experience has been outstanding, inspiring me to share my knowledge and train others with the same passion for education.
Membership and accreditations
I am a member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand(BSSH), a member of the BSSH Education and training committee, and a member of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand.
Personal interests
I have developed a passion for long distance running and am in training for my third marathon. I enjoy spending time with my young family, travelling and catching up with friends.
