Chronic pain seminar

This seminar aims to provide you with an understanding of chronic pain, what it means, how it affects the body and what self-management strategies you can use to help.

Chronic pain is a long term condition which needs self-management, it is therefore very important for you to learn about and apply these strategies.

Your consultant has recommended that you attend this class as it is an important part of your care.

The topics covered within the seminar are:

  • The difference between acute and chronic pain
  • A basic introduction to how the nervous system works
  • A pacing strategy
  • The involvement of muscles in response to pain and the use of stretch, exercise and posture
  • A basic introduction to how emotions and stress effect the body
  • An overview of relaxation techniques and a brief guided relaxation session
  • Understanding and managing sleep
  • Understanding what a pain flare is and how to manage one

The seminar is held at Magog Court (Unit E), which has free parking and is near the Babraham Park and Ride, please be aware there is no formal crossing point outside Magog Court (see map).

The seminar starts at 09:00 and finishes before 13:00 (1pm); free tea and coffee are provided during the break. It is important to know that you do not have to stay sitting during the morning; in fact we encourage you to get up and move around so as to be as comfortable as possible.
