The Reader Panel consists of approximately 35 volunteers with no medical knowledge who review adult patient information leaflets from a patient's perspective. The members provide feedback to ensure that the information:
- is written in a way that is inclusive and accessible
- explains any medical jargon clearly
- is suitably pitched
- has an appropriate tone.
There are approximately ten new leaflets per month and each one is emailed to a random selection of three panel members to review at home. Members email their comments to the Trust Documents Team within seven days. The time commitment is approximately two to three hours a month.
Although Reader Panel members undertake their reviews independently at home, we aim to get the Panel together at least once a year to meet each other and exchange ideas.
We would love to hear from anyone, regardless of experience or educational level, who would be interested in being a part of this service. We are keen to have a range of members from varying backgrounds to gather different viewpoints.
