We provide Imaging services outside of Addenbrooke’s Hospital and this could mean you have a scan at one of our community locations.

Cambridge Biomedical Campus - MRI mobile scanners

Mobile MRI unit - CUH van

Address: MRIS Unit, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Hills Rd, Cambridge CB2 0QQ.

Opening times: 07.00 – 20:00, 7 days a week.

We have two on-site mobile MRI scanners located just outside of our main department MRIS at Addenbrookes. These are located on Robinson Way in-between the entrance to the Rosie and the entrance to MRIS.

Mag 6 is staffed by the CUH MRI team, Mag 20 is staffed by the private company DHC, who perform the scans to CUH protocols and report the scans to the teams at our hospital. Both scanners have a staircase and lift for patients to access them.

Mobility issues

Unfortunately, we do not have a hoist at this location. We advise patients with mobility issues not to attend.

Waiting room

The waiting room for both scanners is in the MRIS unit. Please report to the reception where our staff will let you know which scanner you will be scanned on.

Parking

Parking is available at either car park 1 or 2. It is about the same distance from either car park. Alternative transport is available to the Addenbrookes site.

The nearest toilets are in the main hospital concourse or MRIS waiting room.

Ely Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC)

The Ely Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has started to open imaging facilities at the Princess of Wales Hospital under the management of CUH. The CDC will eventually provide access to Imaging facilities including CT, MRI, X-Ray, and ultrasound.

Saffron Walden – Ultrasound and X-ray

Saffron Walden Community Hospital – Ultrasound department

Saffron Walden Community Hospital entrance.

The ultrasound service at Saffron Walden is staffed by CUH staff and staff from our partners at Diagnostic Healthcare (DHC).

Parking and travel

There is free parking at the hospital, or alternatively there is a bus stop in the hospital entrance road.

Mobility issues

Unfortunately, we do not have a hoist at this location, so we do advise patients with mobility issues not to attend.

It is also not suitable for patients coming via hospital transport, as we do not have a waiting room large enough to keep patients in wheelchairs / stretchers.

Sawston Medical Centre – CT scanner
Sawston Medical Practice - CT Unit

We have a permanent CT scanner at Sawston Medical Centre which is staffed by members of the CUH team.

From Sawston village, after turning left on London Road into Sawston Medical Centre car park, go straight on and then take the next two right turns. Then take the next left turn and go straight until reaching a small parking area. The CT scanner is to the left of the parking area.

There is free parking directly outside the scanner, or alternatively there is a nearby bus stop.

Facilities

There is a toilet available, directly to the right of the entrance to the Sawston CT Scanner unit.

Mobility issues

Unfortunately, we do not have a hoist at this location, so we do advise patients with mobility issues not to attend. It is also not suitable for patients coming via hospital transport, as we do not have a suitable waiting area to care for patients in wheelchairs / stretchers.

The Fulbourn Centre - Ultrasound

We have an ultrasound facility at The Fulbourn Centre.

The Fulbourn Centre – Ultrasound department is staffed by the private company, Diagnostic Healthcare.

How to find us

Please access The Fulbourn Centre via the door on the right of the main entrance. This door has a sign which says ‘Ultrasound scans’.

Mobility issues

Unfortunately, we cannot scan patients arriving on hospital transport at this site so please let us know if you receive an appointment for Fulbourn and you need hospital transport.

Wisbech Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC)

Opening times: 08:00 – 20:00

The Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at North Cambridgeshire Hospital, in Wisbech, provides access to Imaging for people closer to home. The centre is managed by CUH and includes an ultrasound facility.

Parking

There is free parking on the site, or alternatively the bus station is a 4 minute walk away. There are also some offsite parking options should there be no spaces available at peak times.

Toilet facilities

The nearest toilets are approximately 20m away from reception.

Mobility issues

Unfortunately, we do not have a hoist at this location, so we do advise patients with mobility issues not to attend.

It is also not suitable for patients coming via hospital transport, as we do not have a waiting room large enough to support patients in wheelchairs / stretchers.
