This section gives you helpful information to prepare for coming into hospital. Please make sure you know your admission date, what you need to do, and what to bring with you.
Your admission date
You will receive a letter with your child’s admission date. You may also be contacted by phone.
If the date you are given is not suitable, please contact us as soon as possible using the phone number on your admission letter. This allows us to offer the date to another patient and arrange a new date for your child.
If you cannot attend
We understand that plans can sometimes change and your child may no longer be able to attend on the agreed admission date.
If this happens, please contact us as soon as possible using the phone number on your admission letter. This is important for two reasons:
- Letting us know in advance allows us to offer your appointment to another patient. This helps other children receive treatment sooner and avoids wasting NHS resources.
- If you do not attend your admission and do not tell us beforehand, your child will be discharged back to their GP. This means your child will need to wait longer for treatment. If you contact us, we can usually arrange another admission date.
If we change your admission date
In most cases, your admission date will go ahead as planned. However, as a specialist hospital caring for emergency and critically unwell patients, there may be times when we need to change the admission date.
We understand this can be worrying and inconvenient, and we do everything we can to keep changes to a minimum. If the date does need to change, we will explain the reason to you at the time.
