Human Tissue Authority Accreditation

In October 2023, the Cancer Directorate was awarded an HTA Licence.

The Human Tissue Authority regulates the removal, storage, use, and disposal of human tissue. This includes several activities relating to human tissue, such as research, anatomical examination, or organ transplantation.

The licence authorises the following activities to be carried on at CUH:

  • the procurement, testing, processing, distribution, and export of tissues and/or cells intended for human application
  • the storage of tissues and/or cells intended for human application

    2. Storage of tissues and/or cells intended for human application
  • Conditions:
    • Activities may only be carried out under the supervision of the Designated Individual.
    • Licensed activities must take place only at the licensed premises specified above, or on relevant third-party premises (for activities under point 1).
    • Subject to conditions in Annexes accompanying this licence (none applied in this case).
  • Additional Conditions (Annex A): None.
