Healthcare Science Specialism: Clinical Immunology.

What does your job involve?

I process patient’s samples for a range of autoimmune disorders focusing on tests assisting in diagnosis of connective tissue disorders. I use a variety of techniques including indirect immunofluorescence microscopy, immunoblot assays and ELISA techniques.

I verify the assay runs using quality controls and calibrators followed by validation of the results and sending them to the clinicians.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I like the variety of assays and techniques used on daily basis that allow me to keep developing my skills and knowledge.

I feel like I make a contribution to the society by using my expertise to help diagnose patients

What qualifications led you to this role?

I have completed Biomedical Science degree followed by an MSc. I then started working at Addenbrooke's and finished my registration portfolio. After gaining more experience in the Immunology laboratory I was accepted for a Specialist portfolio in Clinical Immunology.

What career opportunities are available?

There is a range of departments that you can join after finishing your degree and complete registration portfolio in any discipline. This allows the candidate flexibility in the way they choose to develop their career. There are a lot of internal courses and external providers that can further your development.
