Martin Bromwich - Biomedical Scientist in the Human Research Tissue Bank (HRTB)

Healthcare Science Specialism: Biobanking/Histopathology.

What does your job involve?

The main role involves the collection and storage/release of consented tissue samples from oncology patients for ethically approved research. This means dealing with fresh specimens that are collected from surgical procedures and dissected in the HRTB by pathologists. We also provide histological services for numerous research projects and clinical trials on both human and non-human material.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is definitely knowing that the service we provide is playing a big part in the research into various diseases (i.e. cancer) which may lead to better treatment and outcomes for patients, and, ultimately, prevention in the future.
