Patient story - Sandra Fox

Sandra was air lifted for treatment at Addenbrookes following an incident at home.

What led you to attend our hospitals and your journey?

I was air lifted to Addenbrookes following an incident at home in which my horse trailer crushed my left arm and right leg.

What are your hobbies & occupation? How have they been affected by your hospital visit?

My main hobby was horse riding, which I am keen to get back to but will be unable to until my injuries have fully healed, which is likely to take another couple of months.

I also enjoy fishing and shooting and looking after the many animals we own. All of these activities have been affected by my injuries as I am left handed and this was the arm I injured in my accident.

I do not work full time but am often busy with the animals during the day which unfortunately my partner is now having to do and will continue to do until I am able to help again.

How has the treatment you've received helped you get back to your life?

All of the treatment I have received in hospital has been impeccable, all of the staff I have met have gone above and beyond to support me throughout my hospital stay and nothing is ever too much.

The staff have been amazing and I couldn’t fault anything.

I have only been in hospital 10 days and this time around would not have been possible without the dedication of the staff.

The physios and OTs have helped me to learn to walk again and encouraged me on both my good and my bad days, they have been there to listen when I haven’t felt up to doing anything and pushed me to achieve my goals.

They have supported from day 1 following my surgery, right through until my discharge and their support will be on going when I am home.

The nursing staff and doctors have listened to my requests and helped me to understand my condition and what the future holds.

Thank you to everyone that has been involved in my care.
