The Addenbrooke’s Occupational therapy department aims to provide the highest standard of professional care to individuals who require occupational therapy either as an inpatient or outpatient. We strive to provide effective and efficient treatment using evidence-based practice in order to optimise and improve an individual’s independence

Our inpatient service is available Monday to Friday 0800-1700.

Referrals:

Outpatient services:

Hand Therapy

General practitioners (GPs) / Allied Health Professionals (AHPs): Please complete the referral form and email to add-tr.occupationaltherapy@nhs.net and either post a copy to the Hand Therapy Team, Occupational Therapy, Clinic 30, Box 174, Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, CB2 0QQ, or send a fax to 01223 586775.

Hospital consultants can make direct outpatient referrals to the Occupational Therapy Service at Addenbrooke's via the electronic notes system Epic.  Create an outpatient order to “OPD hand occupational therapy” and please fill in as much detail as possible.

 

Inpatient referrals:

Patients can be referred to hand therapy whilst they are still inpatients, however can only be seen if the clinical need is urgent and if service capacity allows.  An inpatient order to “OT assess and treat” will need to be completed, and please follow this up with a telephone call to the hand therapy team on extension 216769.

Please note the hand therapy service at Addenbrookes does not provide a neuro-splinting service.

Rheumatology:

CUH rheumatologists, rheumatology nurses and rheumatology practitioners can refer directly to the service. GP’s can also refer to the service but The patient must be under an Addenbrooke’s rheumatologist for the referral to be made.

Pain Services:

CUH pain clinic consultants, pain clinic nurses, pain psychologists and pain physiotherapists can refer to the pain service as long as the patient is under a CUH pain consultant. GP referrals are not accepted at present.

Inpatient services:

Ward staff can make referrals (orders) via EPIC

If you have any comments or feedback from yourself or the person you care for or have suggestions of ways we can improve our service, please discuss this with your occupational therapist in the first instance. You can also contact the Occupational Therapy Manager. The Patient Advice & Liaison Service pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk can also help you, and help us improve what we do.
