You Made a Difference - Covid-19 Alborada Trust awards

Thanks to a donation from the Alborada Trust to Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, we were able to extend the You Made a Difference scheme to recognise the commitment and amazing work of our staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.

We are proud to run the You Made a Difference scheme, which recognises individuals and teams who have made a difference to those around them; either to patients and visitors or to fellow staff members.

Thanks to a donation from the Alborada Trust to Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, we were able to extend the You Made a Difference scheme to recognise the commitment and amazing work of our staff during the pandemic and award all of those nominated. The Alborada Trust says this is:

... a small and inadequate gesture of thanks for your brave and selfless service.

The full list of winners, both individual and team, are downloadable below, but here are a few excerpts from the nominations;

  • Jill was one of the fabulous nurses who helped to care for my husband while he was ventilated on IDA with Covid. During his stay at Addenbrooke's Jill was my rock…I read a quote once, "A nurse is born, not made", and this encapsulates Jill's being. She is truly an Angel of the NHS and certainly one of our "heroes without a cape".
  • Magdalena came over to ITU during a nightshift to assist in supporting a Polish speaking relative during end of life care. Without Magdalena we would have found it very challenging to have provided the exemplary end of life support we strive to achieve for critical care patients.
  • During the Covid-19 pandemic, Sue moved out of her family home, into temporary accommodation, in order to continue coming to work to support her staff and care for patients.
  • Mike has led the development of a staff testing programme at CUH. From nothing, we will soon be performing 800 tests per day. He has co-ordinated CUH and University of Cambridge teams and has worked tirelessly and kept our staff as safe as possible over the Covid outbreak.
