The Podcast Host, ITV Loose Woman Presenter and BBC Radio 1 DJ visited C9 the Teenage Cancer Trust ward at Addenbrooke’s Hospital with girlfriend and professional footballer Ella Rutherford on Thursday 31st July, to meet cancer staff and bring joy to young people on the unit.

GK Barry spent time meeting the teenagers as part of the visit, who shared their experiences of having cancer, the support they’ve received on the ward as well lifestyle interests, TV shows and games they play in the recreation room with the other young cancer patients in the unit’s dedicated social space.

The C9 Teenage Cancer Trust unit is currently designed for 14-24 year-olds, with eight in-patient beds and dedicated day care facilities. All the bedrooms have comfy and cosy soft furnishings, bespoke furniture, as well as TV and gaming facilities.

The unit will be moving into the new Teenage and Young Adult ward when Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital opens on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, a brand-new specialist hospital bringing world-leading research and clinical excellence together, to change the lives of cancer patients across the UK and beyond. Work has already started with young adults across the East of England to help design the future space, which GK Barry found exciting and praised the need for the new hospital.
