Philippa Hird has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH), which runs Addenbrooke’s and The Rosie Hospitals.

Philippa lives in Cambridge and is Chair and Pro-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, Senior Independent Director and Remuneration Committee Chair of Ordnance Survey, a Non-Executive Director of UK Strategic Command and of the Defence Medical Board, and Chair of the People and Remunerations Committee of St Edmund’s College, Cambridge.
As Group Human Resources Director of ITV Plc until 2009, Philippa shaped the consolidation of the regional ITV companies. Prior to that she held general management and then HR roles in Granada Group Plc.
Philippa began her career in marketing with ICI and has an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from The Queen’s College Oxford. Philippa has been Chair of the NHS Pay Review Body, a Non-Executive Director of HMRC, Deputy Chair of AQA and of City, University of London.

Philippa has been appointed to a three-year term of office by the CUH Council of Governors following a competitive recruitment process. She takes up the position on 1 July 2025.
