There has recently been a global shortage of medical bone cement, a material used in some orthopaedic procedures such as joint replacements.
This followed a temporary production pause by one of the major international manufacturers. Although production has restarted, supplies have been limited across the UK in recent weeks.
The national response to this issue has been coordinated by NHS England, and the NHS has now secured alternative supply.
As a result, all elective orthopaedic surgery at CUH is continuing as planned. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.
If you have any questions about your planned procedure, please call the number on your admission letter.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
