Neurosurgery

The neurosurgery team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital carries out a wide range of highly specialist procedures for patients with conditions affecting the brain, spine and nervous system.

This includes surgery to treat brain and spinal tumours, minimally invasive spinal surgery, curvature of the spine, cerebral aneurysms and arterio-venous malformations, pituitary and skull base tumours including acoustic schwannoma,  hydrocephalus, epilepsy and deep brain stimulation for a variety of neuro degenerative conditions.

The team of consultant neurosurgeons and specialist nurses play an important role in supporting the wider neurosciences department by offering opinions on the best possible management of each patient, from their initial referral throughout their treatment. Should surgery be necessary, they will work with individuals and their families to explain the procedure fully and answer any questions, as well as providing a comprehensive follow up service.

Staff in the department work particularly closely with colleagues in the neuro-radiology team, who offer advanced imaging techniques to help ensure the greatest possible precision during surgery.
