There’s no feeling quite like when a very sick patient gets better and comes back to say thank you.

This ward is like home to me now, and the team are my extended family. I started here as a healthcare assistant in 1997 and from the very first meeting with my new manager, Jill, I was encouraged to start my nursing training. She helped me every step of the way, supported me with the paperwork and before I knew it, I was a student nurse.

It was clear to me throughout my training that neuro was for me and I applied for a post there as soon as I finished. Successful, my new manager, Helen, continued to encourage and challenge me.

Fifteen years on and I’m now giving the same support to my team, that Helen and Jill gave to me. They all make me extremely proud.

No two days are the same in neurosciences and the people we see here continue to amaze me. There’s no feeling quite like when a very sick patient gets better and comes back to say thank you.

Neuroscience is a fabulous place to work!
