The kidney transplant team at Addenbrooke’s provides specialist care and advice for patients being assessed for kidney transplantation and for those who have received a transplant.

With a combined experience of over 80 years in renal nursing and kidney transplantation, the team comprises of three recipient coordinators, three living donor coordinators and a renal transplant specialist nurse. 

The recipient coordinators guide people who are considering having a kidney transplant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital from assessment through to finding a suitable donor and transplantation.

The living donor coordinators arrange the entire assessment process for all live kidney donors in our region. For donors out of the East Anglia region, we provide specialist support to guide clinicians through the donor workup process.

The renal transplant specialist nurse supports patient’s through the long term management of their newly transplanted kidney. 

As a regional centre of excellence for kidney transplantation, the team at Addenbrooke’s accept referrals from the whole of East Anglia and regularly holds outreach clinics at the following dialysis centres:

  • Norfolk and Norwich
  • Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdon
  • West Suffolk, Bury St Edmunds
  • The Lister, Stevenage

Where multiple organ transplantation including a kidney is required, the Renal Transplant Coordinator team also works in close collaboration with the other abdominal transplant teams at Addenbrooke’s and with the cardiothoracic transplant team at Papworth Hospital.
