Mr Russell was appointed as a Consultant Transplant and General Surgeon at Addenbrooke's in March 2014. He undertook his undergraduate medical studies at St. Andrews University before completing his clinical studies at Cambridge University. Prior to his specialist training he gained a post graduate degree (MChir) from Cambridge for work in the field of transplantation. His specialist surgical training took place in Cambridge and the surrounding area and he has been a part of the transplant team in Addenbrooke's since 2011. He was appointed as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Cambridge in 2016.

Mr Russell is the primary implant surgeon for the living donor kidney transplant programme at Addenbrooke’s. He also has a specialist interest in intestinal and Multivisceral transplantation and is one of the team of Consultants involved in the daily care or these highly complex patients. He also does a weekly hernia list which includes repair of both simple and complex hernias in the general and transplant population.
