Dr Deegan is a consultant physician in General Medicine and Metabolic Diseases. He graduated in Dublin, Ireland in 1988. His clinical postgraduate training began in diabetes and endocrinology, where he completed his MD research thesis on lipoprotein metabolism in diabetes. Dr Deegan gained consultant level accreditation in clinical biochemistry and developed an interest in inherited metabolic diseases. He joined the Lysosomal disorders team at Addenbrooke's in 2001 and became its clinical director in 2006. He is a member of the European advisory board of the ICGG Gaucher registry. His current research interests include biomarkers of Lysosomal storage disease and cellular targeting of enzyme replacement therapies

Professor T M Cox MD FRCP FMedSci

Professor Cox is Professor of Medicine at the University of Cambridge with clinical responsibility for internal medicine and metabolic diseases at Addenbrooke's Hospital. He qualified in medicine in 1971 and has conducted scientific investigations principally on inborn errors of metabolism. Some of his recent research has focused on Lysosomal Storage disorders - their molecular pathogenesis and treatment. Professor Cox was the founder of the National Gaucher service at Addenbrooke's, later to become the Lysosomal disorders service. He continues to share clinical responsibilities with Dr Deegan and heads the department’s clinical and academic research. Professor Cox serves on the board of several journals and is an editor of the Oxford textbook of Medicine.

Dr Chong Yew Tan

Dr Tan is a consultant physician in General Medicine and Metabolic Diseases. He graduated in Dublin, Ireland in 1999. His clinical postgraduate training began in diabetes and endocrinology. He completed his PhD research thesis on fatty acid metabolism at the University Of Cambridge Institute Of Metabolic Science, during which he developed an interest in inherited metabolic diseases. Dr Tan gained consultant level accreditation in diabetes and endocrinology in 2014 and joined the Lysosomal disorders team at Addenbrooke's as a consultant in 2016. His current research interests include deep phenotyping of inherited metabolic disease as a model for understanding common metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes

 

 


 

We all work closely with our colleagues in orthopaedics, cardiology, nephrology, neurology and radiology who have experience in the management of patients with lysosomal disorders. Further details can be provided upon request.
