Defence employer recognition scheme (ERS)

CUH continues to be recognised as a silver award member of the Government’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS). This scheme encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same.

The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the Armed forces community, and align their values with the armed forces covenant (opens in a new tab).

We recognise the value serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families bring to our organisation.

As a signatory to the covenant we:

  • Promote the fact we are an armed forces friendly organisation.
  • Strive to support the employment of service spouses and partners.
  • Seek to support our employees who choose to be members of the reserve forces, including by accommodating their training and deployment where possible.

Silver award holders:

  • Demonstrate support for service personnel issues and employ at least one member of the armed forces community.
  • Actively communicate and uphold a positive stance to their employees via established HR policies and procedures.
  • Show flexibility towards annual training commitments and mobilisation of reservist employees and support the employment of cadet instructors, armed forces veterans (including wounded, injured and sick) and military spouses / partners.

The revalidation of CUH’s silver award status highlights our continued commitment to Defence personnel since 2014. It is testament to our continuing efforts in championing the value this community brings to our organisation and how we continue to demonstrate support and flexibility for our staff with on-going commitments to the armed forces.
