Patient Advisory Board

In October 2025, CUH published the independent Verita report and our action plan, Learning, Accountability and Change. As part of this, CUH committed to establishing a Patient Advisory Board (PAB) in partnership with affected patients and families. The PAB was set up in February 2026.

Welcome from the Chair

My name is Catherine Kimberley. I am a parent of a young person involved in the review and Chair of the Patient Advisory Board (PAB).

We have a small but very proactive group of parents and family members on the Patient Advisory Board. All have joined with the shared goal of helping to shape meaningful change at the hospital.

We have spent the first few meetings agreeing our shared objectives and how we can best support families. See further details below.

We want the Board to be a critical but supportive and positive voice – a place where we can share our experiences to help the hospital make meaningful changes and to do everything possible to ensure this never happens again.

We warmly welcome other parents and families who have been a part of this review to join and be part of the Patient Advisory Board.

Our objectives

The key objectives of the Patient Advisory Board are:

  1. Represent the voices of all those children and young people and adults affected by the current review.
  2. Use our lived experiences to improve outcomes for patients – through learning, training or improved engagement.
  3. Advise and test the way in which the Trust communicates with patients and their families.
  4. Strengthen patient trust and confidence in the services delivered by Trust going forward.
  5. Act as a critical friend.

Frequency of meetings

We meet every month, with meetings held in person (at a local community centre) or online. We encourage parents and families to attend as many meetings as possible.

  • Saturday 28 February – 10am-11.30am (online)
  • Saturday 21 March – 10am-11.30am (online)
  • Wednesday 29 April – 6pm-7.30pm (online)
  • Wednesday 10 June – 10am-11.30am (online)
  • Wednesday 24 June – 6pm-7.30pm (online)
  • Saturday 25 July – 10am-11.30am (in person)
  • Wednesday 26 August – 6pm-7.30pm (online)
  • Saturday 26 September – 10am-11.30am (in person)

As a Board, we believe it is important that children and young people affected have the chance to share their experiences and be heard as this work moves forward.

An in-person creative listening event for children and young people is taking place on Saturday 13 June.

It is facilitated by two independent organisations, the National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS) and Olovus, who both have experience of working with children, young people and families to listen to experiences and make sure those views are understood and reflected in the work that follows.

Anonymous quote from a parent and member of the PAB

Speaking up, raising concerns, and engaging with the Patient Advisory Board has helped me feel heard. The hospital now has a responsibility to rebuild our trust. They need to listen and take action. I truly feel this situation has forced them to reflect and learn, and there are people trying to make things right. To other parents in similar situations: don’t be afraid to make your voice heard. When you do, people will listen.

Non-urgent advice: Join

The PAB has been set up to make sure the views and feedback of patients and families are shared with the Trust, so if you have a question please get in touch and we will make sure it is answered.

For any questions and to join the Patient Advisory Board (PAB) please contact cuh.familyliaison@nhs.net.
